AnnotationIn 2006, Gordon Brown, then Chancellor of the Exchequer, issued a challenge to all employers - to have a volunteering scheme for their employees. This research bulletin is one of a series published by the Institute for Volunteering Research to explore and disseminate aspects of 'Helping out: a national survey of volunteering and charitable giving' (2007). The survey found that 36% of current employees had an employer-supported volunteering (ESV) scheme available to them, a substantial increase since the 1997 National Survey of Volunteering. This bulletin outlines findings on the characteristics of ESV schemes, and employees' views on such schemes - how they benefit and their motivations for getting involved. (RH)
