AnnotationSQW Consulting was commissioned by the Commission for Rural Communities to develop the good practice case studies presented in this report, and building on the Commission's research on rural disadvantage. The focus of the case studies is on financial inclusion among individuals rather than businesses. This paper provides an overview analysis of rurally distinctive features of financial inclusion and successful elements of schemes which deliberately target financial exclusion in rural areas. The nine case studies include a citizens' advice bureau (CAB), a credit union, a mobile bank, a financial education project, and a village shop and post office. The report concludes with a lessons section, noting the main points of good practice for developing financial inclusion projects in rural areas. (RH).
