AnnotationCare homes provide a 24-hour service. Many research projects have focused on daytime care and provision in care homes, but little is known about night-time care practices and provision, especially the views and experiences of residents and the views and practices of night care staff. These findings outline the results of an action research study by a team at the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships, University of Edinburgh. The study explores the night-time care experiences of residents, relatives and staff in three care homes in Scotland. It identifies good practice and suggests improvements through a series of interventions. These are used to make recommendations for care regulators, commissioners and providers, home managers and night-time care staff. The full report (same title), by Diana Kerr, Heather Wilkinson and Colm Cunningham, is published by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) and is available as a free download on the JRF website. (RH).
