Annotation | Debates about euthanasia often polarise opinion, but in Belgium the two sides have been mutually reinforcing: advocates for the legalisation of euthanasia work in palliative care and vice versa. Belgium was the second country to legalise euthanasia but also has among the best developed palliative care, and the authors outline milestones in the development of both. Adequate palliative care has made the legalisation of euthanasia ethically and politically acceptable. (RH). |
