AnnotationThe Older Family Carers Initiative (OFCI) was a three year project designed to support Learning Disability Partnership Boards across England to identify and meet the needs of older family carers of people with learning disabilities, as prioritised in the White Paper, 'Valuing people'. The project began in 2002 and closed in 2005 with a new toolkit developed to help the Boards, entitled "Valuing Families : a toolkit for family friendly services". This is the second in a series of good practice guidelines, part of the resources that were developed to reflect the lessons learned and the good practice developed across the country to support older family carers. It discusses additional questions that need to be asked when identifying older family carers: who should we be identifying; how should we identify them; how do we ensure they are willing to be identified; and who should take ownership of identifying older family carers? This guideline should be read in conjunction with Guideline 3. It is available from FPLD as a download; see website for details. (KJ/RH).
