Annotation | Mittelman's editorial introduces this special section of Aging & Mental Health by reviewing some major studies on psychosocial interventions in dementia published since 1985. Next, in 'A future for family care and dementia intervention research? Challenges and strategies', Steven H Zarit and Elia E Femia identify some of the methodological issues that may have affected previous trials testing the effectiveness of interventions. Lastly, in 'A European consensus on outcome measures for psychosocial intervention research in dementia care', Esme Moniz-Cook et al recommend 22 measures across 9 domains (including quality of life, mood, global function, behaviour, and daily living skills) that will improve the comparability of intervention studies across Europe.
