Annotation | The Expert Patients' Programme (EPP), launched by the Department of Health (DH) in 2001, was one of the first manifestations of self-directed support. This article outlines the mixed findings of the National Primary Care Research and Development Centre (NPCRDC) on its final report on the national evaluation of the EPP pilot project. The report concluded that while the EPP moderately increased patients' effectiveness in self-care, use of general practice (GP) and outpatient services by those with long-term conditions did not reduce. The author summarises the practice implications of these findings. (RH). |
