AnnotationMayoral and Assembly elections take place in London on 1 May 2008. This document calls on all candidates to take forward the commitments in the Mayor of London's older people's strategy, 'Valuing older people' and act on ten key issues: protect older people's services from cuts and closures; promote equality to fight ageism; free, safe, accessible transport; create safer communities and reduce fear of crime; improve access to affordable learning opportunities and cultural and leisure activities; supply decent, appropriate housing; provide adequate health and social care services; support older workers and volunteers; use influence to tackle pensioner poverty; and recognise and support the diversity of older Londoners. Each issue is accompanied by a statement from an older Londoner, suggesting what the Mayor should do to fulfil their needs. (RH).
