AnnotationUsing Kogan's Attitude Scale (1961), Sanders' Attitude Scale (1984) and Carmel's Open-Ended Instrument (1992) as well as Palmore's Facts on Aging Quiz (FAQ), New Zealand university students' attitude toward older people was assessed in conjunction with a number of previously studied factors (e.g. gender, size of home town, time they spent with older relatives) as well as a couple of factors never studied before (e.g. emotional closeness towards older relatives, and their observed health conditions). Results revealed that subjects hold a positive attitude towards older people across all attitude scales; FAQ scores as well as newly studied factors seemed to have some significant relationships to the people's attitude toward older people; some results vary significantly depending on what types of attitude scales were used, which suggests the risk of using a single attitude scale in this domain.
