Annotation | While annuities have an important role to play in retirement income provision, the arguments in favour of compulsory annuitisation no longer stand up. This discussion paper aims to stimulate a more open debate about the options available for retirement income. It challenges current Government policy and suggests that greater flexibility in regulatory structures could further stimulate innovation and open other options that many individual may find more appropriate for them. Using information from the research paper, 'Modelling income drawdown strategies', it provides an overview of a number of income drawdown approaches, particularly with the needs of those in defined contribution (DC) pension schemes and proposals for personal accounts in mind.
