Annotation | The Independent Living Strategy brings together initiatives - across Government departments - which will enable more people to have choice and control over the support they receive, remove barriers to independent living, and improve access to services. The Strategy includes the following Government commitments: promoting independent living; action and learning site and regional initiatives; maximising disabled people's housing opportunities; transport and mobility; health; employment and economic well-being; personalisation, choice and control; support, information, advocacy and brokerage; joined-up approaches for independent living for older people, young disabled people and disabled parents; and monitoring progress. Views are sought on implementing the strategy and the involvement of older people. This summary outlines the main points of the strategy and the consultation which runs until 20 June 2008. (RH). |
