AnnotationThe Faculty of Old Age Psychiatry provides evidence of discrimination against older people to the House of Commons /House of Lords Joint Committee on Human Rights. Referred to are: inequalities in community services; concerns about older people's privacy and dignity in their treatment in care homes and hospitals; discrimination in access to healthcare, also issues of abuse or neglect; and attitudes of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the Healthcare Commission. While it cites a few positive examples of treatment for physical or mental illness, the Faculty also gives examples illustrating poor training and knowledge about human rights. The Faculty concludes that the new Commission for Equality and Human Rights (CEHR) should give priority to a formal inquiry on the discrimination and infringement of older people's human rights.
