Annotation | 'Ready for work' responds to and summarises responses to the consultation on the Green Paper, 'In work, Better off' (Cm 7130, July 2007), which sought comments on the goal of an 80% employment rate. It discusses principles for reforming the benefits system, and sets out intentions on two reform principles: a stronger framework of rights and responsibilities to move claimants from being passive recipients to being active jobseekers; and a personalised responsive approach that will support people in finding work. It looks at employment for lone parents, jobseekers, disabled people, and people with health conditions. Older people are included in a chapter on "other disadvantaged people", which notes as policies improving back to work help for the over 50s; improving training opportunities for the over 50s; and improving recruitment and retention opportunities for the over 50s via employer intervention. The roles of Jobcentre Plus, local communities and Local Employment Partnerships in delivering employment are outlined. (RH). |
