AnnotationThis paper details the background to, and reasons for, the development of the Bedfordshire telecare service. It describes individual telecare sensors, explaining how the system works and some ways in which sensors have been used to support older people in maintaining their independence. Examples of actual clients are given where certain sensors have proved particularly successful as well as where the system has not worked so well. Obstacles encountered are explained, giving details if solutions were found. Procedures for referral of new clients through to assessment and review are outlined, also details of how the service is monitored and evaluated, and concluding that there is scope to further develop the service.
