AnnotationThis is one of ten background papers providing detailed analysis and support for the report, Engaging With Care: A Vision For The Health And Care Workforce Of England, published by the Nuffield Trust in September 2007. The report, together with the set of background papers, provides an analysis of current policies and trends and identifies routes for future action. The report identifies trends and challenges that can help define the common ground in health and care policy, while allowing for different policy directions at national and local levels. This background paper begins with some basic concepts of health economic evaluation. Next, care interventions chosen to select points on the continuum of health and social care, through informal care, to formal care, are presented. It summarises the key themes of a literature review that identified studies which have produced economic evaluations of such interventions. (RH).
