Annotation | The Human Rights Act 1998 (HRA) came into force in October 2000, and brings the main rights and freedoms guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights 1950 into UK law. This article outlines the findings of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights' recent report, "The human rights of older people in healthcare". It notes that the Committee was convinced that current legislation does not sufficiently protect and promote older people's rights in health care, there being a significant imbalance between service providers and service users.
