Annotation | The Carers (Equal Opportunities) Act 2004 should ensure that carers' needs and rights to education, training, employment and leisure activities are taken into account when assessed by social care managers and practitioners. This review by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) draws attention to its own information resources (at www.scie.org.uk) and those of Carers UK (www.carersuk.org). Also included are short abstracts for three recent articles concerning caregiver strain: 'Caregiver objective burden and assessment of patient-centred, family-focused care for frail elderly veterans', by Julia Hannum Rose et al (The Gerontologist, vol 47, no 1, February 2007); 'Carers Assessment of Difficulties Index (CADI): psychometric properties for use with carers of people with dementia', by G M Charlesworth, X M Tzimoula, and S P Newman (Aging & Mental Health, vol 11, no 2, March 2007); and 'Perceived stigma and depression among caregivers of patients with bipolar disorder', by Deborah A Perlick et al (British Journal of Psychiatry, vol 190, no 6, June 2007).
