Annotation | The authors use case studies to explore how housing (rented and owner-occupied) is an essential part of any strategy seeking to bring health and social care together, in which more importantly, the user or patient should be at the centre. This point of view is looked at from three distinct perspectives. First, the way in which housing services help people to meet their needs and achieve their aspirations. Second, property and the way in which housing quality impacts on the need for health and social care services and improves people's health. Third, place and the impact of health on neighbourhood effects. An overview of the policy context provided by the CSIP Housing Group highlights concerns about particular groups: those with mental health problems, a learning disability or a physical disability, older people, children, offenders, and homeless people.
