AnnotationTake-up of Council Tax benefit is of major concern to Age Concern England (ACE), as up to 2.2 million pensioners are missing out on the benefit that is due to them. This paper is a response to the House of Commons Communities and Local Government Committee's inquiry, and refers to the Lyons Inquiry which is looking at how local government is financed. While ACE supports the rebranding of Council Tax benefit as a rebate, it is important that Government continues to promote and encourage benefit take-up. ACE puts the case for reform of benefit rules and for improvements to processing and data sharing, so that benefits can be delivered automatically. (RH).
