AnnotationIndividual Budgets (IB) build on Direct Payments, in Control, and other approaches to provision of self-directed support. Researchers from the Social Policy Research Unity (SPRU), the Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) and the Social Care Workforce Research Unit comprise the Individual Budgets Evaluation Network (IBSEN) team conducting an evaluation of the 13 Individual Budgets pilots. This summary outlines the findings on: the first phase of implementation; training and development; the cost of setting up IBs; and early experiences and views from the first IB recipients. Results gleaned at the initial stage (covering July-November 2006) find both positive and conflicting views being expressed by training managers, frontline staff, and the service users and their carers.
