AnnotationThe House of Lords Science and Technology Committee published its original report, "Ageing: scientific aspects", on 21 July 2005 and received the Government's response on 4 November 2005. The Committee published its follow-up report (including the Government's response and comments of witnesses) on 22 March 2006. This second follow-up report includes a more considered Government response, which takes note of a Grand Committee debate on 5 June 2006 (reported in House of Lords Debates). The response includes comments on issues raised in the debate: the Government's ageing strategy ("Opportunity age"); an Observatory on Age and an Office for Ageing; Funders' Forum; involving older people in research; assistive technology; age discrimination; and active ageing. The Committee provides a commentary on this new response on the following: healthy life expectancy; stroke; older drivers; and co-ordination of research. (RH).
