Annotation | The significance of hormone action in psychiatry has long been studied, but only recently has this study included the psychiatric influence of hormones on the ageing process. This book is the first to consider the hormonal basis of mental disorders in older people. Its three main themes cover: hormones and mental health; the effects of hormones and behaviour on immune function; and hormones and gender differences in psychotropic drug metabolism. The editor and contributors are all US academics, so the perspective is predominantly American. (RH). |
