AnnotationStandards play an increasingly important role for information and communication technology (ICT) systems. While the primary purpose of standards is to facilitate trade, there is awareness of the value of consumer representation in this process, and of involvement by accessibility specialists in design of systems, too. This document notes that while people with disabilities could influence the content of standards, the problem remains of knowing that a standard is being developed, or knowing in sufficient time to have any influence. It provides a succinct introduction to accessibility standardisation, writing a standard, participation in meetings, implementation, and information dissemination. (RH).
