Tagging for people with dementia | Author(s) | John Wattis, Stephen Curran |
Journal title | Geriatric Medicine, vol 37, no 5, May 2007 |
Pages | pp 57-58 |
Keywords | Dementia ; Electronic alarm systems ; Social ethics. |
Annotation | In April 2007, Science Minister Malcolm Wicks suggested that monitoring tags could help families or carers track older people with illnesses such as dementia. This is because the symptoms of dementia can often include memory loss or confusion, making the sufferer more vulnerable to wandering. In considering this news story, the authors draw attention to the principles laid down in the Mental Capacity Act code of practice. They hope that the Department of Health (DH) will fund research that will provide information to inform the debate started by the minister. (RH). |
