Annotation | The Centre for the Advancement of Interprofessional Education (AIPE) has defined interprofessional education (IPE) as "occasions when two or more professions learn with, from and about each other to improve collaboration and the quality of [service]". However, contributors to this paper do necessarily adhere to this definition. The paper is is presented in three sections, the first of which indicates the breadth of IPE, to include interprofessional learning and interprofessionalism. Section 2 focuses on theories of identity and social practice, including application of the term "interpersonal". Section 3includes the application of theories drawn from other contexts: participative appraisal; ethnocentrism and archetypes; and complexity theory. A concluding chapter refers to a few other theories, for example adult learning theories. (RH). |
