AnnotationPaul Burstow's Private Members' Bill is supported by a Labour MP and another Liberal Democrat. If enacted, the Bill will amend the Human Rights Act 1998 to extend the definition of public authority to include any body acting pursuant to a contract with a public body to perform a function of a public nature. It will also confer new functions on local authorities in relation to persons in need of care or protection provided by such authorities. The Bill was not printed and dropped after its first reading on 10 January in this session. (KJ/RH).
