Annotation | The effectiveness of a training course for participants from a range of disciplines in using oral history or reminiscences with older people was evaluated. The oral histories in this project are "living histories", combining oral history and the creative arts. A one-group pre-test post-test design was used to determine whether self-rated knowledge about the uses of oral history or reminiscence would increase after participating in an introductory overview workshop and one or more specialised workshops. There was a significant increase in knowledge between pre-test and post-test. While number of workshops attended did not influence knowledge, participants with previous experience with oral history showed greater gain. Interdisciplinary training is a promising way of preparing more workers to combine arts and reminiscence in work with older people. (RH). |
