AnnotationThe Volunteering Initiative in the Third Age (VITA) is a project funded variously by the Home Office and the Cabinet Office, and co-ordinated by the Women's Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS). The project - which ran from November 2004 until November 2006 - was established to champion volunteering by older people. Volunteering is examined in the context of individual case studies of social isolation, building bridges between the generations, in promoting social cohesion, and enhancing health services for older people.
