Annotation | The Volunteering Initiative in the Third Age (VITA) is a project funded variously by the Home Office and the Cabinet Office, and co-ordinated by the Women's Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS). VITA's aim is to increase awareness of the value and impact of older volunteers and improve their volunteering experience, by facilitating the sharing of best practice across the voluntary and community sector. As part of the joint Campaign Against Age Discrimination in Volunteering, VITA and Volunteering England conducted a telephone survey of 477 member organisations of Volunteering England. This report presents findings on volunteer numbers, involvement by field of activity, and roles played. Most respondents did not have an upper age limit for their volunteers, nor did they have difficulty in insuring older volunteers, thus dispelling myths the Campaign wishes to counter. (RH). |
