Annotation | The International Day of Older Persons, organised by the United Nations, takes place every year on 1 October. In conjunction with this day, Eurostat publishes statistics on the population aged over 65, which highlight some of their demographic, economic and social particularities compared to the total population. These include: expected healthy life years at 65; employment rates for those aged 60-64 and 65-69; structure of free time for men and women aged 20-64 and 65+; and internet use. This news release precedes the publication of "The employment of seniors in the European Union", one of the Eurostat Statistics in Focus series. (KJ/RH). |
