AnnotationThis edition of Wellcome Focus provides an overview of recent developments within the field of the biology of ageing. The last few years have brought insights into the fundamental mechanisms of ageing, showing that people begin ageing at very early stages of life, and that the choices we make and the lifestyles we lead throughout our youth and adult years influence how we age. Our bodies age through the accumulation of damage to our cells throughout life, influenced by our genes, the food we eat, the amount of exercise taken and the environment that surrounds us. Not surprisingly, therefore, ageing is highly individual. Contributions by eminent academics, journalists and freelance writers provide a mix of review articles, personal comment and research reports, and are grouped under subject headings: Society, Biology, Medicine and Future.
