Annotation | In their editorial (pp 375-386), Margaret Holloway and Mark Lymbery comment on policy developments since the 1998 White Paper, "Caring for people: community care in the next decade and beyond" (Cm 849). They note the preoccupation of "Caring for people" with protection, which has continued with the "No secrets" documentation. (Department of Health, 1999). Papers in this special issue of the British Journal of Social Work provide analysis and commentary on progress made in social care and social work with adults in the past decade, as well as on continuing problems and emerging issues. Subjects covered include: direct payments; guidelines for dementia care; free personal care in Scotland; the effects of the Mental Capacity Act 2005; and managing older relatives' financial assets.
