Annotation | This special issue of Journal of Aging & Social Policy focuses on developments in the US in evaluating care mainly from the perspective of nursing home residents. It starts with a literature review on satisfaction instruments used in long-term care settings. The next article examines the role of public and private initiatives on using consumer satisfaction as part of quality improvement systems in ensuring quality long-term care. This is followed by consideration of development of the CAHPS instrument (the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) for nursing home residents (NHCAHPS). Two articles on the Ohio Nursing Home Resident Satisfaction Survey (ONHRSS) cover first its development, and second, its statewide implementation and results. Lastly, the relationship between organisational factors and resident satisfaction with nursing home care and life is examined. (RH). |
