AnnotationThe author reviews two research reports into older people's needs and the relationship between affluence and health, both published by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) in 2007. "Measuring resources in later life: a review of the data" by Sue Middleton et al involved a research team from the University of Loughborough's Centre for Research in Social Policy and the University of Essex. In contrast to other studies, this report found that age in itself is not a strong predictor of hardship. The second study is "Understanding resources in later life: views and experiences of older people" by Kathryn Hill and colleagues, also at the Centre for Research in Social Policy. This qualitative research examined the importance of looking at a range of resources in older people's lives. The author of this article highlights the key attributes of the research being reviewed.
