AnnotationThe Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) commissioned the Social Policy Research Unit (SPRU), University of York (together with Acton Shapiro) to undertake a knowledge review, "Outcomes-focused services for older people" (SCIE, 2006). This summary outlines the methods used for the knowledge review, and the key findings regarding those outcomes valued by older people: change and improvement; maintenance and prevention; and the processes of obtaining and receiving services. It briefly describes case study examples on outcomes-focused activities and services, and the factors helping and hindering outcomes-focused approaches. Discussion of the study's findings refers to problems of how we interpret "outcomes". (RH).
