AnnotationThis survey forms part of the work undertaken by the London Chinese Community Network (LCCN). The needs of the contemporary London Chinese community present new challenges to service provision in the field, and the survey was undertaken with the aim of providing information and advice to frontline service providers, as to what changes, if any, should be embraced in providing services to the Chinese community. An overall picture of the current level of participation by Chinese residents in activities held by community organisations was gathered. Data collection involved two sample surveys: one for service users and one for service providers. The sample population for service users was randomly chosen (planned n=100-150); whereas the service providers as LCCN's stakeholders were targeted as primary respondents (planned n=15-25). A service user questionnaire (SUQ)(appendix) of 155 copies were posted with a return figure of 113 completed questionnaires. A total of 35 copies of the service provider questionnaire (SPQ) were sent, only 20 were used for data analysis. The survey results showed the use of current services and the following areas of concern: lack of publicity; communication barriers; lack of escort assistance; limited service available to refugees and asylum-seekers and a lack of activities for young people. Discussion and assessment of these areas follows with a summary of needs and responsive strategies given in the findings and recommendations made. (KJ).
