AnnotationOlder men can and do experience abuse in various forms, even though men are more likely seen as perpetrators than victims. This paper argues that agencies must train their workers to acknowledge that men can be victims, nut only of 'husband-battering', but of other forms of abuse, too. Giving abused men 'permission to speak' is also vital. Arguments in this paper are based on a research project funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) and the author's ongoing research, published as "Male victims of elder abuse: their experiences and needs" (Jessica Kingsley, 2001).
