Annotation | Belgium is characterised by a very low employment level for older employees, a problem created by different stakeholders over a 35-year period. The authors use a theoretical framework for their research, a 'generative theory' that generates actions and opportunities beyond merely explaining and predicting. This framework, which is built around the 'practice' concept, is mainly intended to lead to an open discussion concerning age-related problems and possible human resources (HR) solutions. The authors discuss their research and intervention methodology - organisation development/process consultation - which they used in two in-company research projects: at Borealis, a Danish plastics company with 800 employees in Belgium; and Hasselt city council (more than 800 employees). These projects are aimed at the proactive discovery of new practices that encourage workers to work longer, more efficiently, and more enthusiastically. They describe the different steps in the two projects as well as their results. (RH). |
