AnnotationFood in Later Life is a project carried out with financial support of the European Union (EU) under the 5th Framework Programme for Research, Technology and Demonstration, as part of the Quality of Life and Management of Living Resources, Key Action 1, Food, Nutrition and Health (www.foodinlaterlife.org). Social and cultural aspects of alcohol consumption in a sample of older people living in their own homes in eight European countries - Denmark, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Spain and the UK - are identified. Several aspects of alcohol consumption are explored, in which comparisons between genders, age groups and living circumstances are established. The phenomenon of alcohol consumption within these countries and cultures are compared, in order to gain a better understanding of similarities and differences. (RH).
