Annotation | The "grandmother question" was developed for use in long-term residential and nursing care for people with dementia whose ability to be involved in judgements of quality were constrained by their disorder. The original question was formulated as "How happy would you be for your grandmother to be cared for here?" In this article, the authors describe a study in which managers and staff of continuing care units - some managed directly by an NHS Trust and others by a housing association - were interviewed and asked the "grandmother question". The aim was to assess how helpful the answers to this question would be in indicating the quality of services. (RH). |
