Annotation | Subjects in this study were 290 stroke patients in Sweden aged 65+ discharged from hospital, living in their own homes and having no dementia diagnosis prior to hospital admission. Prognostic assessments by four categories of staff (physicians, nurses, occupational therapists and physiotherapists) regarding "need of help", "health situation" and "dwelling" for these patients were far more accurate than expected by chance. There was a considerable variation in the accuracy of assessments - 22% to 89% - due to individual factor considerations. Feedback of outcome might be one way to further improve the accuracy of prognosis assessment. (RH). |
