Annotation | The Mental Capacity Act 2005 places a duty on local authorities and the National Health Service (NHS) to refer people who may lack capacity to make decisions about medical treatment and other important life issues to an independent mental capacity advocate (IMCA) service. This article describes the experiences and lessons learnt in Croydon, where one of the seven IMCA has taken place.
