AnnotationThe author chose the title "Dying declarations", from a rule in US law that allows the statement of a dying person to be admitted as testimony in a court of law if the dying person is not now available to testify, and on the basis that someone who believes that death is imminent is likely to give reliable testimony. The author presents a collection of stories, observations and reflections based on his relationships with people who are dying. The book is mostly based on his experiences as a volunteer for hospices and nursing homes from 1995 (after his grandmother's death) until 2003. It concludes with a chapter relating to euthanasia or assisted suicide. (RH).
