AnnotationThere is a growing literature documenting the positive effects of religiousness and spirituality. Consequently, the assessment of spirituality and the interventions that tap into the personal resource are becoming increasingly the focus of research and practice. Spiritual assessment may include a variety of modalities that obtain information about a person's spiritual well-being, history, crises or dilemmas. Such assessments are used to guide pastoral care and/or interventions. The papers in this volume were originally delivered at the 2003 Annual Meeting of the Gerontological Society of America in San Diego. They offer an overview of caregiving and practice issues that reflect use of data to understand their impact on older people. This book has been co-published simultaneously as Journal of Religion, Spirituality and Aging, vol 17, nos 1/2, 2004. (RH).
