AnnotationDespite what they might say, people at the end of life rarely want everything or nothing. Medical academics from the US explain how to understand and meet the needs of people who are dying, by ensuring that inappropriate, invasive medical interventions are not used. They also note that discharge planning should be the opportunity for patients to discuss future needs, should they be re-admitted to hospital, namely whether they will require a "do not resuscitate" order or an advance directive.
