Annotation | A lender with the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) outlines his view of the UK healthcare industry and looks at the typical challenges faced by operators seeking finance, also the approach taken by lenders to assess and control risk. This is not merely about lending money, but concentrates on the additional efficiency gained in the financial process from using detailed knowledge of the sector. The paper also considers wider risk management issues normally referred to as "interest rate hedging" and examines the application of inflation hedging in the healthcare business. It is concluded that to tackle the most important issues faced by healthcare businesses, lenders will be required to obtain and demonstrate detailed knowledge of the sector. A joined-up approach across lending and risk management will be a key to their success. (RH). |
