Annotation | A recent innovation in US medical education has been to use older people living in the community to convey geriatric content to medical students. The American Association of Medical Colleges and John A Harford Foundation grant program have together developed this concept, referred to as "senior mentorship programs" or SMPs. Articles in this special issue of Gerontology & Geriatrics Education are from eight US medical schools with established SPMs, and are by way of description and evaluation, highlighting what works well, and might be considered by other SMPs or medical schools thinking of setting up SMPs.
