AnnotationThis special issue of Gerontology & Geriatrics Education is a project of the National Association of Geriatric Education Centers (NAGEC), and the National Association for Geriatric Education (NAGE) Committee on Education and Training. The geriatric education center (GEC) initiative was authorised by Congress in 1983; currently there are 50 funded GECs in the US, with one in almost every state. Articles highlight GEC projects, most of which are collaborative, include initiatives in curriculum and resource development, teaching techniques, and information dissemination. The projects discussed concern the following: objective structured video tests (OSVEs); conference programming; the use of games to improve patient outcomes; education and training courses in cognitive vitality, Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related dementias; emergency preparedness for bioterrorism; and ethnogeriatric education.
