Annotation | With an ageing baby boomer generation, it is likely that by the mid-2020s the National Health Service (NHS) will have to care for a greater number of people with dementia, while the number of informal carers drops. Unplanned admissions to hospital will provide an incentive for the NHS to ensure joint commissioning with social care works. This article outlines dementia care pathways - a method of ensuring that patients receive appropriate treatment - as developed in Cornwall since 2004. At present, staff are otherwise poorly trained in identifying and dealing with dementia. (RH). |
