AnnotationIn common with other Canadian provinces and territories, Manitoba has seen a steady increase in the proportion of older people, with those aged 65+ increasing from 11.9% in 1981 to 13.5% in 2001. The papers in this special issue of Canadian Journal on Aging are all based on work by researchers at the Manitoba Center for Health Policy (MCHP), University of Manitoba and on data in the Population Health Research Repository at MCHP (http://www.umanitoba.ca/centres/mchp). Papers cover trends in health status, family physician use, and home care use; pharmaceutical use; and hospital use. Policy issues to be noted include: the implications of an ageing workforce of family doctors; and the ability to discharge patients not requiring acute hospital care to alternative levels of care. A final paper reviews the quality of administrative data. (RH).
